The museum officially opened its doors on December 13, 1997.

The African American Firefighter Museum is dedicated to collecting, conserving, and sharing the heritage of African-American firefighters through collaboration and education.

We believe the work we do at the Museum contributes to a better understanding of our comprehensive American Story; creates pathways for maintaining a more civil, safe, and economically sound community; and fosters resilient, empathetic fire service leadership.
