Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers play a vital role in the operations of the African American Firefighter Museum. We are always seeking passionate, dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers to help carry out the Museum’s mission of collecting, conserving, and sharing the heritage of African-American firefighters through collaboration and education.

The contributions of a variety of skills, time, enthusiasm, and kindness of our volunteers directly impact the quality of the experiences our visitors have at the museum. The Museum’s volunteers support the work of a variety of different departments at the museum including: Administrative, Curatorial, Education, and Marketing/Communications/Development.

Our goal is to create volunteer engagement opportunities that:

– Allow exploration of American history, fire service history, and the local community stories that demonstrate the societal good that is possible through individual and collective action.

– Build a community-based participatory museum culture.

– Create learning experiences for students, scholars, community members, and fire service candidates and members.
