In Our Own Words

In order to achieve its mission in collecting, conserving, and sharing the heritage of African-American firefighters, the African American Firefighter Museum seeks to build a collection of oral histories submitted by former and current African-American firefighters, as well as community members. This collection of stories entitled, In Our Own Words, will be shared on this site.

Blazing Trails & Breaking Norms is a podcast where African-American women firefighters/paramedics share their own words, recounting their awe-inspiring journey, challenges, and impact on the fire service. Through their firsthand accounts, you’ll gain a deeper appreciation for their resilience, uncover the layers of history they’ve shaped, and recognize their transformative role in this vital profession.

Monthly Speaker Series

This inaugural series will highlight various topics related to former firefighters and emergency service workers who worked in Los Angeles. Panelists will include Station No. 30 workers and community members.
